edC 2025報告：AUOとTianmaがMicroLED技術を発表
先頃ニュルンベルクで開催されたElectronic Displays Conference (edC) で、AUOがMicroLEDに関する講演を行った。同社は現在第4.5世代生産ラインを保有しており、さまざまなディスプレイサイズに対応可能だという。AUOはスマートウォッチと車載ディスプレイに重点的に取り組んでいる。スマートウォッチで使用されている円形ディスプレイは、円形ノブにも転用できる。
AUOは現在、スタンプとレーザーの2種類のマストランスファー技術を使用している。どのマストランスファー技術を選択するかはディスプレイのピクセルピッチによって異なる。AUOはSamsung向けの透明ディスプレイモジュールも製造しており、これはCESのSamsungブースで展示された。
AUOは4年前に設立の部門、AUO Display+経由でもMicroLEDを提供している。AUO Display+は商業市場向けソリューションを設計している。同社はこれまでに、アイトラッキング (視線計測) 用やジェスチャー認識用のセンサーを搭載した透明MicroLEDディスプレイを設計している。AUOは年内に量産開始予定だと述べている。
展示会場 (Embedded Worldの一部) では、Tianmaが車載用のMicroLEDディスプレイをいくつか展示していた。これらは昨年のSID Display Weekでも展示されていた。残念ながら、デモ用パネルにはまだ欠陥ピクセルがいくつか見られた。
1つ目は、反射率3%未満、透過率50%超の8.07インチ透明ディスプレイである。このディスプレイは167 PPI、輝度は最大2000ニットまで調整可能である。Tianmaは同様のディスプレイでより透過率の高いもの (55%超) も展示していたが、こちらは低反射機能がないものだった。
Tianmaは解像度1204×608の8.0インチMicroLEDパネルベースのヘッドアップディスプレイ(HUD) もデモ展示していた。このパネルは輝度10000ニットを達成しており、HUDを通して見た場合の輝度は1300ニットとなる。ディスプレイ画像はガラスに単純に反射されるだけで、投影光学系は存在しない。

Giving a talk on MicroLED at the Electronic Displays Conference (edC) in Nuremberg recently, AUO said it now has a G4.5 production line, which enables the company to target various display sizes. AUO is focusing on smartwatches and automotive displays. The circular display used in smartwatches can also be repurposed for circular knobs.
AUO is currently using both stamp-based and laser mass transfer technologies. The choice of mass transfer technology depends on the pixel pitch of the display. AUO has also made transparent display modules for Samsung, which were showcased at Samsung’s booth at CES.
AUO also offers MicroLED through AUO Display+, a division formed four years ago. AUO Display+ designs solutions for the commercial market. It has designed a transparent MicroLED display with sensors for eye tracking and gesture recognition. AUO says mass production should begin before the end of the year.
In the exhibition hall (part of Embedded World), Tianma demonstrated several MicroLED displays for automotive applications. These were also shown last year at the SID Display Week. Unfortunately, there are still some defective pixels on these demonstration panels.
The first one is an 8.07” transparent display with a reflectance below 3% and a transmittance above 50%. This display has 167 PPI and the brightness can be adjusted up to 2,000 nits. Tianma also showed a similar display with a higher transmittance (above 55%) but without the low-reflectance feature.
Tianma also demonstrated a heads-up display (HUD) based on an 8.0” MicroLED panel with a resolution of 1204 × 608. The panel reaches a brightness of 10,000 nits, which results in 1,300 nits when viewed through the HUD. The display image is simply reflected on a glass, meaning there is no projection optics.
