From the moment I entered the Central and West Halls at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, it became apparent that in addition to the plethora of TV displays and automotive solutions, this was the year of AI PCs and new gaming monitors.

Several IT and consumer brands also had private booths at the Venetian and West Halls.

By all accounts, the new AI PCs showcased by Qualcomm and others, Lenovo’s slidable notebook PCs, LG’s new 45” UltraGear gaming monitor and Samsung’s 27” QD-OLED monitors were drawing in some of the biggest crowds.

Qualcomm showcased over 20 AI PCs that use the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets. Models from Acer, Asus, Dell, Lenovo, HONOR, Samsung and Microsoft were on display. During the show, Acer, Asus and Lenovo made announcements for more models.

I was able to get a private tour of the LG booth. In addition to the many TV models on display, LG showcased the new 45” WOLED gaming monitor with a resolution of 5120 x 2160, 165Hz refresh rate and a flat-to-900R curvature. With the press of a button, the display could become flat or bent upwards of 900R. Although the presenter mentioned increments of curvature, he could not provide specifics. LG also showcased its new 39” WOLED gaming monitor with a resolution of 3440 x 1440, 240Hz refresh rate and an 800R curvature. When asked about pricing and availability, no information was provided.

LG also refreshed its LG Gram series of notebook PCs. Four new models were shown – two variants of the Gram Pro, a new Gram Pro 2-in-1 and the entry-level Gram Book. The 17” version of the Gram Pro uses an Intel Core H-series (Arrow Lake) processor and the 16” version uses an Intel Core Ultra V-series (Lunar Lake) processor. The 16” model is a Microsoft Copilot+ PC with all the AI features such as Recall, Live Captions, Cocreator and Windows Studio Effects.

In the Samsung booth and Samsung Display private suite, two new 27” QD-OLED gaming monitors were showcased. The Odyssey OLED G8 (Model G81SF) uses a 27” QD-OLED display with a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.

  • The Odyssey OLED G6 (Model G60SF) uses a 27” QD-OLED display with a 2,560 x 1440 resolution and 500Hz refresh rate.
  • These models use a fourth-generation QD-OLED panel (although Samsung Display did not specifically call it that) with a 5-layer OLED structure that improves luminance efficiency by 30%. Peak brightness remains around 1000 nits for the monitors, while full-screen brightness is about 250 nits.
  • Besides Samsung, Asus and MSI also showcased their 27” QD-OLED models.

I was not able to make my way to the Lenovo booth, but in the Samsung Display suite, they showcased the new Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI PC. Although the model’s description notes rollable OLED, it is actually a slidable OLED. The display is an 18.1” OLED. Lenovo’s press release noted that the notebook could expand from 14” to 16.7”. The remaining 1.4” is used to slide the display underneath the keyboard area. When rolled in, the screen supports a 5:4 aspect ratio on a 14” display. When rolled out, the aspect ratio shifts to 8:9 on a 16.7” display. The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 will be available starting June 2025, with an expected starting price of $3,499.
